Entries must be submitted online via the link above by 11:59 PM CST, December 31, 2018. See Section below on “Files and Uploads” for guidelines on files sizes uploaded to futureNOLA website. Please keep your confirmation email, which you will receive upon submission.

Entrants should provide:

(1) Narrative: a concise 200-350 word written description describing the conceptual vision of the proposal, including:

  1. How it address the ‘Mission + Goals’ of futureNOLA,

  2. How the proposal relates to challenges and opportunities the City of New Orleans faces as expressed by the four “Lenses”: Cultural Identity, Environment, Equity, and Smart Growth.

  3. Please identify the date of your visions within a future 300 year time line. For instance, 50 years, 100 years, or 300 years for now. (It's up to entrant to determine on the time frame chosen, but these are merely examples for time frames.)

  4. Please identify the location of your vision within New Orleans, if relevant.

(2) Individual/Team Biographies

  • Application form requires a short biography and/or artist statements (150 words max for individuals).

(3) Submission Types

  • FutureNOLA encourages any of the following types:

    1. Architecture + Planning (designs for individual buildings, new landmarks, urban planning, parks or landscape, or transportation, drainage/water or energy infrastructure, etc.)

    2. Visualization (paintings, sketches and drawings, photography, sculpture, collage, bas reliefs, etc.)

    3. Written Submission (poems, essays, short stories, etc.)

    4. Kinetic Art (film, video, multimedia, performance art, dance, etc.)

    5. Soundscape (music, spoken word, tonal poem, etc.)

Important Dates

  • March 1, 2018: Call for Ideas Opens

  • December 31, 2018: Deadline for Entries for Call for Ideas

  • January–TBA 2019: Analysis of Entries/ Curation of Exhibit

  • TBA 2019: All selected entrants will receive notice of selected work(s), loan agreement, and participation guides

  • TBA 2018: Receipt selected exhibit materials

  • TBA 2019: Exhibition Opening

  • February 2, 2019: Gala: BeauxArts Ball at Cabildo

  • TBD 2019: Publication

Distinctions

Entrants to the Call for Ideas will be eligible for several distinctions:

  • All submissions will be included in a published catalogue of ideas to be produced in 2019 with introduction and content from local and national thought leaders.

  • A wide selection of submissions will be chosen for feature in the Cabildo Museum at Jackson Square in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

  • Selected entrants will be invited to present and discuss their work alongside influential local thought leaders in a forum setting.

  • Selected entrants may be provided lodging and travel expenses to New Orleans to present their work.

  • Selected entrants may be featured on the futureNOLA website and futreNOLA press releases.

  • Selected entrants will receive two (2) admission ticket per entry to opening events of Exhibition.

  • Selected entrants will receive two (2) tickets to the Gala.

Evaluation for Public Forum Participation

Entries will be included by the Panelists for inclusion in discussions according to the following:

  • Innovation, the extent to which the idea is novel and highlights opportunity to a present challenge.

  • futureNOLA Mission + Goals, the extent to the entry address the futureNOLA with a particular emphasis towards addressing the Challenges of the four Lenses:

  • Feasibility, the extent to which the entry is implementable and financially sustainable.

  • Cultural Impact.

ELIGIBILITY & GENERAL GUIDELINES

Submission Deadlines

The Call for Ideas will be open from March 1, 2018 (12:01am CST) to December 31, 2018 (11:59pm CST). No exceptions.

Who is Eligible to Submit?

The futureNOLA Call for Ideas is open to individuals, collectives, businesses, non-profits, and municipalities. Submissions are encouraged in all mediums, including but not limited to graphic art, creative and critical writing, architecture, music, and performance. Submissions from local, national, and international teams are highly encouraged. Members of the futureNOLA Planning Committee are allowed to submit entries.

Submission Fee

The submission fee has been waived to open access for all entrants. If you are interested in financially supporting the futureNOLA project, please see Become A Sponsor.

How to Submit

  • futureNOLA is ONLY accepting online submissions.

  • To submit, click on “Submit” button below for link to Application and Portal to upload file(s).

  • Entrants must provide required submission fees and required application information, or your application will be disqualified.

Artwork, Media, Specs

  • Entrants may enter up to three (3) submissions TOTAL. If more than 3 are submitted, only the first 3 submissions will be considered.

  • All mediums are eligible.

  • All selected works must be ready for installation at the time of delivery or work will be disqualified.

  • In some cases, artists must provide required special AV equipment and/or display stands that are specific to the work.

  • For each submitted work, where applies, applicants must provide a list of objects/elements that are included with the work and any special display descriptions.

  • Work made of materials that may be hazardous to your health cannot be accepted.

  • futureNOLA cannot exhibit any perishable objects or materials, such as food.

  • More complicated installations may require self-installation, with support from the futureNOLA install crew. All installation takes place in mid-December 2018 to early January 2019. Please keep this in mind as you apply.

 

Terms and Conditions

  • All entries are subject to the Terms and Conditions listed on Terms of Use.

Files and Uploads

  • To qualify, eligible entrants must follow all requirements and instructions in Slideroom (for submissions)

  • Entrants may upload up to three (5) images/files and three (5) URL links, to enter up to three (3) submissions

  • Suggested, but not required, use easy to access platforms like SoundCloud, Vimeo, or YouTube for audio/video files. (Indicate passwords, if needed)

  • Video and/or audio clips may be no longer than 5 minutes each.

  • Files MUST be titled exactly as requested on the Submittable registration form.
